The half-genie girl is right. The site Game-On Ken is officially open for business. It took a lot of work to prepare, but its finally ready to be a blog site. This will be a long talk about the improvements I did, and how the site is going to run.
What are the updates on the site?
There are some changes that are more important than others, so I will go over them, from big to little.
1. Newsletter
Users are now able to sign up for the Game-On Ken’s Newsletter. There are two Newsletter forms on the site. One is a Pop-Up form and the other is in the footer section, on the bottom of the site. The link leads to a new page that enables users to fill in the information required. After you sign up, you should get a welcome message in your email inbox. From then on, you will be receiving notifications on new blog post I create.
You should receive three emails in total, when you first sign up. They focus on the layout of how the messages will appear. So go ahead and sign up on the Newsletter.
2. Privacy Policy
The site now has a Privacy Policy. It goes over everything that deals with: your Personal Information, how I will use it, clicking on website links, and what will happen if the site closes. The other part of the terms is how someone can communicate with me aka “site administrator”, changes to the Policy, and the site’s Security.
3. Terms and Conditions
The site has a Terms and Conditions form too. This focus on: the rules every user needs to follow while on the site, the consequences if the rules are broken, the responsibilities as the site owner, and what the site owner is not responsible for. It contains other information like: what content the site owner owns, the U.S laws the service follows, and again changes to the form and how to contact administrator.
These forms are found at the bottom of the site.
4. Contact Page
The contact page is finished. I created boxes for anyone to fill, and tried to keep it simple. Its hard to tell if an email address is fake, so I added a confirmation box in case someone makes a mistake, from trying to respond to me. This is found on the header menu selection at the top of any page. You don’t have to become a subscriber to use the page.
5. Site Logo
Game-On Ken has a site logo now. It will also be used for anything outside the website that is connected with Game-On Ken. Just like any site, clicking it will take you to the Home page.
6. Other Updates
a. About Me
I added a Work History section to my About Me page. It shows the work experience I have done that relates to video game creation.
b. Profile Picture
I have a profile picture for myself. I am using Gravatar, so my information will be there when I post comments on other blog sites. You can upload a profile picture and assign it to your email address. If not, the site will automatically create a bot profile picture for you, in order to keep track of everyone.
c. YouTube
My YouTube channel has a link to the website, and the site has a link to the channel at the bottom of this website. They are both named the same “Game-On Ken”. My channel profile picture is one of my characters and I plan on to make different content in the future. As for the channel, the ABOUT section is different and I added my logo to the banner.
d. Game Hero Quest Open for Everyone
From uploading the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions, the section called “Game Hero Quest” is open for anyone to check out now. When I have more content from projects I create, I will be changing the portfolio section.
e. Facebook Page
Game-On Ken has created a Facebook page. It will feature the title of an upcoming blog post and a sentence about it. Any news and update information will be short like the blog post as well. If you want the full information about everything, you will have to sign up for the Game-On Ken’s newsletter and check on the website. All of my side work, like fan artwork and YouTube content will be posted on this page.
I will be uploading this blog post and the one before this called “Hello World” on the page. I expect to have fun on the Facebook page because I can post more ideas and have more freedom, than on this website.
f. Site Font Size
I made the font size of the website bigger for both the headers and body.
Plans for the Website
Now that the site is ready to start blog post, I will go over how the site will handle them. As being a side project for me, my goal is to post something at least once a month. As a reminder, all post will be under a subject named: News, Advice, Game Subject, Game Lesson, Personal, and Other.
The first post will be posted a week from now. As for Tip of the Week, that will began sooner next week as well. I plan to do Tip of the Week on Mondays, based on my time zone. (Central Daylight Time (GTM-5))
My future Goals
Here are my goals for the site at this present time.
- Get at least 10 post done by the end of the year.
- Find ways to get attraction to the site.
- Reach the site’s target audience.
- Reach a goal of 30 Subscribers by the end of the year.
- Get involved with game communities.
- Put game projects on the main site.
- Sign up on other blog sites.
These goals feel straightforward for a start-up blog site. I have to plan them all out and get to work on getting them done.
Conclusion
I am excited and glad that my website is completed and ready to begin. I will think more about changes and ways to improve on how blog post are written. This is completely a new learning experience for me, so things will change a lot on the structure of the post and the site itself. As stated before everything will begin a week from when this post is uploaded.
