Game Hero Quest

Why Do I Like These Games

The Drifting Village/ Ys Eight: Lacrimosa of Dana

I think an adventure game is one that has a story with good environments to travel through. The characters are interesting and I like extra features like mini-games and quest to make it feel like a journey.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time has a really good build up with its adventure from start to finish. I like the story for the overall game and this Link has a back story. His relationships with characters in the game leaves an impact on him, an example are the six sages.

The locations are more in depth and the music works well with the environments. The Ocarina was a cool feature, using music to progress in the game, that you play yourself. One of my favorite things is the time travel mechanic between Young Link and Adult Link. The changes from past to future was cool to see and the difficulty level was presented well with the temples.

The idea of Disney combined with anime style Sqaure Enix games is one of the main reasons I like the series, this turns a lot of people away, but that what makes it interesting. Having a game where you travel to Disney movies and help out with combat involved, is what caught my attention. I like there are Kingdom Hearts characters by itself and not relying too much on both sides.

My second favorite thing about the first game is the SIMPLE STORY. There are two plots, which are the main game and the Disney worlds. Sora and his friends (the main story) are effected sometimes by the events in the Disney Worlds. The worlds have good emersion by looking like the movies they are from, and object interaction helps the locations. The game’s level design, combat, and music is really good and I don’t mind the platforming.

Jak and Daxter is a really well done collectathon and adventure game. Everything you collect and do is related to getting the main object in the game called “Power Cells”. Power Cells is what you need to progress in the game similar to Power Stars from Super Mario 64, but is different enough to stand out. Every location is sperate into big areas that are fun to explore and Jak’s music creates a tone of atmosphere, as if you are there too.

The platforming is great and controlling Jak feels so right in mobility and controller feedback. One of biggest things about this game I like is progressing to the hub worlds, and most importantly the game’s presentation in writing and fine animations. The humor is major to me and Daxter’s dialog works well in telling the player information. What I like about the old precursor race is the mysteriousness and how that stays in all of the games.

Ys Eight is an adventure action game that goes through a journey dealing with two sides. The story, adventuring and learning more about the mysteries of the island is an idea that keeps my attention. The combat is easy to learn and all of the playable characters play differently. I really enjoy the music, simple RPG elements, key items, the journal and others.

What I like most about Ys eight, is using the game’s theme (being stranded on an island) inside its mechanics. Materials is a huge part of the experience to help the player, and there are many ways to gather them. The castaways you rescue uses their occupation and skills to benefit the gameplay, that requires getting materials.
